We are very proud of our Finnish Lapphunds and can state that nearly all kennels within Australia & New Zealand have been established from our first breeding pair. We can honestly say that we are proud of where we are heading.

We breed correct, very typey Finnish Lapphunds who excell in the show ring and are great companions. Our Lapphunds are bred in our home and are well socialised prior to going to their new homes.

We are the Breeders of "Laani", who is Australia's first female Grand Champion and is the youngest Finnish Lapphund to achieve an All Breeds Reserve In Show and of "Blaze" a 4 time winner of the Melbourne Royal Best of Breed Finnish Lapphund. From these initial litters we have bred 3 Australian Grand Champions. The owners of the lappies we have bred have used them in multiple disciplines where some have gained their CCD's, herding instinct tests, Responsible Pet Ownership dogs, as well as many obtaining their conformation titles.

Our breeding practices are outlined here and we are not afraid to publically show where errors may have cropped up. All of our Finnish Lapphunds are Hip tested and prcd PRA tested. We will only breed from prcd PRA clear dogs and those with hip results equal to or lower than the Breed average. Parent testing results are freely and openly discussed with prospective owners. This is through necessity, as we are so far away from the huge gene pool in Finland. Whilst we are not against doing PRA carrier to clear matings, we feel it foolhardy to do so repeatedly, without offsetting them with clear to clear matings. We do not have the luxury of a large, clear breeding pool within Australia, so need to maintain a greater number of clear animals only in our breeding combinations. This view is not ours alone but also that of most of the other lapphund breeders within Australia.

The reason for this is to dispel the verbal comments being passed by some breeder/s within Australia that we at Theldaroy, are breeding poor hips. Whilst we have had some hiccups from our first litters - these came as quite a shock to us as we had insisted and received dogs for compatible breeding with good hip and eye results through most of their lines. Hip issues are a complex thing and as yet...... no Finnish Lapphund within Australia is physically symptomatic of any dysplasia at all to date. I guess that some could sling mud in our direction as we do have some dogs with less desirable results than we would like, although by the same token, we are also one of the breeders who have had the majority of their progeny tested as well.

New legislation within Victoria enforces breeders in that state, to disclose any heritable problems their puppies may have. This practise is one which we do with all our litters. Parent testing results are freely and openly discussed with prospective owners. Under this law diseases that can be tested via DNA are those that are targetted.
